If you learn a new scale, combine it with a chord and simple groove pattern to work it into your fingers.Similarly, if you learn a new chord, practice it alongside the more familiar version of that chord to get used to it.

This is true with modes, intervals, doublestops, and all sorts of licks that we pick up.If we work this way, we are much more likely to be able to do tasty little fills when playing with other people.
