Post-Rock Girl From Ipanema

3.00

Format: Sibelius digital score with tabs & standard notation (.pdf)

This lesson was very much inspired by the jazz-ish inflections of the classic Chicago post-rock collaborative, Tortoise. I love jazz theory, chords, and melody - but I've never been much of a straight-ahead bebop player :-)

The idea here was to demonstrate how you can take the lovely, complex chordal colors of Jobim's "Girl From Ipanema," and put it in a context that is bit more minimal and modern than you'd expect. I lowered the voicings and the melody an octave more than a standard jazz chord solo, and took every opportunity to leave "air" in the piece.
