I'm always looking for interesting ways to apply Hendrix chord-fill techniques to other tunes, specifically those that aren't necessarily in the same genre. It's a great way to highlight his approach, as well as the melodic context of the song "specimen."

In this case, I chose to tackle Fleetwood Mac's "Gold Dust Woman," for no particular reason, other than my love for Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Peter Green, and the rest of the iconic band.

Here's what I did:

  • First, I figured out the chord progression

  • Then, I transcribed the vocal melody, taking note of where the gaps are - perfect for applying fills

  • Next, I looked for ways in incorporate CAGED doublestops, and whatever other sweet licks seemed tasty at the time
